“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16 KJV)
Mostly recently, I read an article written by a Bloomberg columnist Joe Nocera and published by Los Angeles Times on how Boeing sacrificed quality on the altar of shareholder value. Apart from safety being the assumed main competitive advantage of any leading airplane manufacturing company—it should be constrained by the love for human lives to make sacrifices even if it means recording financial losses. As a student of corporate finance, I know that shareholder wealth maximization is at the core of corporate financing. Howbeit, not with systems, processes and standards that are inimical to the other stakeholders—customers, employees, suppliers among others.
For Boeing, it may have seemed as if following the path of love would have minimized shareholder value. It may have in the short run—but in the long run, the positive change on shareholder value would have been phenomenal. Because love never fails. Love remains the foundation of success. (1 Cor.13:8)
Vision must be born out of love to maximize REAL shareholder value. The greatest visionary that ever lived founded His vision on love as abundantly seen from our golden text above. God is love and every vision that wants God Order of results must be founded on love.
A vision not born out of love will lead to self destruction. In Judges 9, we were told about Abimelech. He had a vision to lead his people but his vision was not motivated by love but self. He killed 70 of his legitimate half brothers because he was a product of an illegitimate relationship. That lack-love vision destroyed him.
Today, we see people who are willing to kill, malign or manipulate to actualize their personal ambitions. In business, some manipulate figures, tamper with weights and measurements, adulterate goods and sacrifice relationships on the altar of unjust gains. Some with the vision of leadership or rulership are willing to kill, manipulate people and things. Ditto for any other vision you can imagine —even ministry. Hear this: Any vision that’s driven by self and not love will definitely lead to self-destruction.
It is despicable, repugnant and unconscionable to misuse your fellow human being all in the bid to make unjust gains or gain cheap popularity. Rabbi Daniel Lapin puts it succinctly thus: “Immortality in business is as repugnant as immortality in marriage.”
Entertainer Danny Thomas profoundly said, “All of us are born for a reason, but all of us don’t discover why. Success in life has nothing to do with what you gain or accomplish for yourself. It’s what you do for others.” Love always seeks to add value and not to subtract. (1 Cor.13:5; Roms.13:10)
Love brightens your vision. It illuminates your way to avoid any kind of stumbling on your way to significant success. Every love based vision will always turn challenges to opportunities for progress. (Roms.8:28)
Hear this: Only love driven visionaries are prepared and empowered to record unprecedented success. Let’s begin to lay a new foundation of love as we dream and envision. The world is in dire need of the pure love of Christ. And you cannot make a significant mark with your vision without the application of this knowledge. It was Franklin P.Jones that observed, “Love doesn’t make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.”
Let’s spread the love of Christ abroad because our world is in dire need of it. Howbeit, you can only give what you have. Only the beneficiaries of love can extend love. Have you received the love of Christ? When you receive it by faith, then the Holy Spirit will shed His love abroad in your heart. You can receive it today.
