“The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you, so therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It’s that simple.” (Col.1:27 MSG)
Part of the habits I developed as a student in England was to regularly read the Gentleman’s Quarterly popularly known as GQ. Part of the lessons I learned and experienced was that when the culture being sold and communicated by the publishers are imbibed some fleeting glory will rob off on the influenced and practicing reader. GQ has become a brand that’s used as a synecdoche for excellence in dressing for men.
Recently, as my wife and I reflected on GQ as it relates to gentlemen— the Holy Spirit inspired this thought that GQ for me means Glory Quotient. And that the magnitude of the glory of a believer is a representation of the full glory of Christ. Then the eternal words of Paul as quoted in our golden text above came alive in my spirit— “Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
The wisdom of this world with its glories is nothing and at best fleeting. These immortal words of William Wordsworth always reverberate in my spirit —
“The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers;
Little we see in Nature that is ours; …”
I have come to the awesome realization that it’s the glory from God that’s permanent. Christ is the glory of the saints. That’s the mystery that’s unveiled. And when you realize or become conscious of your glory quotient in Christ, you will never have anything to do with the lower life that seeks the glory and honor from men or of the flesh.
What an awesome privilege of grace to know that I don’t have to beg to see His glory because His glory resides in me forever. I only need to position myself by faith to reflect that glory and consciously put on that resplendent glory. That’s the heritage of every born again child of God. Hear what Apostle said, “It was faith that immersed you into Jesus, the Anointed One, and now you are covered and clothed with his anointing.” (Gal. 3:27 TPT) His anointing is His glory! Hallelujah!!
The big question is — How do we reflect this glory?
1. Be united with Christ by being born again.
It is when Christ is IN us that we’re immersed in His glory. When this happens— you become a partaker of His eternal glory. And in the the words of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome — an associate of the God kind. (2 Pet.2:2-4)
2. Be conscious of the Indwelling Glory.
God has called us unto His eternal glory —not temporary glory. Paul writing to Philemon encouraged him to effectively communicate his faith by being conscious and aware of every good thing that is in him in Christ Jesus. It is only when we are conscious of the glory we carry that we can put the generosity of our faith to work. ( 1 Pet.5:10; Philemon 6)
3. Activate the Spirit of Wisdom.
God has ordained wisdom unto our glory. If you must reflect His glory you must walk in His wisdom. The good news is that Jesus has been made wisdom to us. All we need to do is to acknowledge the wisdom dimension of the Spirit of Christ. Believe in Him; appropriate that grace and walk in excellent wisdom. Then you will manifest the glory. (1 Cor.1:24;2:7)
4. Be totally immersed in the Word.
As we immerse ourselves in the Word —we are constantly being transformed or metamorphosed into the image of Christ from glory to glory by His Spirit. (Prov.4:20; 2 Cor.3:18)
The good news is that you are the temple of the Holy Spirit and the Bible says, “… and in His temple doth every one speak of His glory.” (Psalm 29:9b) The glory of God upon your life will be most pronounced that your impact will be seen and felt by those in your sphere of influence. It cannot be denied!
Arise, shine brilliantly for the glory is upon you!
To your glory quotient,
