Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish.” (2 Cor.2:14-15 KJV)
As someone that is called specially with the grace to raise global entrepreneurs, I’m enamoured by the story of the Biblical Billionaire David Green as described by Forbes. He’s the CEO of Hobby Lobby with a real time net worth of $7.7B according to Forbes. Green, the son of a poor preacher, alongside his siblings embraced Christ and His teachings.
David Green has consistently applied biblical principles in his business and has unashamedly attributed their significant success to God. He’s one man amongst others who has spread the sweet and exquisite fragrance of Christ not only in entrepreneurship but in global evangelism, philanthropy, education, government and other aspects of our shared humanity.
He believed in the impact of the resurrected Christ in his life to affect his world with overwhelming influence- spreading the love of Christ, that he said, “…You can’t have a belief system on Sunday and not live it the other six days.”
While Jesus was on earth, He went about doing good – spreading the sweet savour of His love. (Acts 10:38) Forty days after Christ’s resurrection, He empirically showed Himself to many; spreading the knowledge of His mighty resurrection. (Acts 1:3) But since His Spirit came on the Day of Pentecost, He’s been working and spreading His sweet savour of His knowledge through believers. And He’ll continue to use willing believers like David Green, you and me to spread the savour of His knowledge.
Until we realize the unlimited powers God has given to us as His ambassadors to dominate in every sphere of human influence or endeavour, by spreading the savour of His knowledge, we’ll remain like beasts that perish because we lack understanding of our honorary status in Christ.
Therefore, the primary way to savour the sweet and exquisite fragrance of Christ is to acquire an insatiable taste and appetite for knowledge. And then spread the knowledge by applying the wisdom in it, in our day to day conversations. The Wiseman said, “ My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste: So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.” (Prov.24:13-14)
It becomes important to look at some dimensions of knowledge that we must acquire to maximize our relationship with Christ.
1. Knowledge of Christ as Lord and Saviour.
This is where it starts! Having a revelation of Christ as Lord and Saviour is fundamental to having an intimate relationship with Him. Job said, “I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes.” (Job 42:5 NLT)
2. Knowledge of Scriptures.
The more we increase in knowledge of God’s Word, the more we increase in grace and virtue. Also, wisdom is imparted as we receive the Word of God in our spirit. (2 Pet.1:2-3; 3:18; 2 Tim.3:15)
3. Knowledge of the Spirit of Grace.
It’s the Spirit of Grace that empowers you to live like Christ. He gives life colour and meaning. He’s the Spirit of Favour. (Zech.4:6-9; 12:10)
4. Knowledge of the Power in the Name of Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is the Father’s Greatest Pleasure. That Name unlocks the blessings of God. It remains our access code to the Father. We also dominate with that Name. (S.S.1:3; John 14:13; Phil.2:5-11)
5. Knowledge of the Power of His Resurrection.
Understanding this will place you in an undisputable place of dominion. Paul prayed for the Church in Ephesus to get this knowledge in order to exercise dominion on the earth. (Eph.1:17-23; Phil.3:10)
6. Knowledge of the His Love.
To know His love which passes knowledge is to be full of God. God is love and to know His love is to know Him and enjoy His all. He only manifests to those that love Him and works through them to show His love to the dying world. (Eph.3:17-19; John 14:21)
In this post resurrection season, let’s know that Christ is leading us in a triumphal procession. So, let’s spread the sweet and exquisite savour of Christ everywhere.
To the spread of Christ’s savour,
